15-Day Best ofNamibia Safari–the name says it all Kalahari and the Namib Desert, Fish River Canyon, Kholmanskop Ghost Town, Sossusvlei and Dead Pan. Then add the Skeleton Coast with Damaraland the Etosha National Park with wild life re-habilitation centre to end makes this truly the best of Namibia.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Kalahari Dessert

Self-drive:

  • You will be met by the car rental company representative and transferred to their offices in Windhoek to complete all rental procedures

Private guided:

  • You will be met by your private guide when you arrive and he will be with you all the way to the end of the safari
  • Drive south from Windhoek to your lodge for the evening about 3 hour’s drive south

Optional activities here include game and nature drives as well as a Bushman experience

Day 1 - Kalahari Dessert

Day 2 - Fish River Canyon

  • Head south via Mariental and Keetmanshoop to the Karas region, the Fish River Canyon area
  • Detour on route to the Quiver Tree Forest, a beautiful site where thee large aloes grow between rocks-If time permits, visit the Fish River view point at sunset makes one feel so small!

Day 3 and 4 - Lüderitz / Kholmanskop Ghost Town

  • Enjoy a morning canyon view before heading west through harsh but beautiful terrain which changes to wide open desert plains
  • Day 4 is set aside for a drive to Lüderitz to visit the amazing Kholmanskop Ghost Town

Option extra is a sunset drive with the lodge guide and vehicle

Day 5 and 6 - Namib Desert / Sossusvlei

  • Drive north along some of the most spectacular desert scenery to your lodge close to the Sossusvlei gate entrance (about 15 kms).
  • Check with reception what time the Namib Naukluft Park gate opens at Sesriem and arrange with the guide to wake you p early for breakfast. Then you head to the entrance to Sossusvlei, the Sesriem Gate
  • Normally we would spend the morning in the beautiful area and return to the lodge for lunch. However, you can arrange a lunch pack to enjoy in the dunes area
  • Visit Sossusvlei, Dead Pan, Dune 45 Sesriem Canyon and lots more

Day 7 and 8 - Swakopmund/Walvis Bay

  • Depart after breakfast and head north to Solitaire, then west crossing the Tropic of Capricorn, through the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons via the Namib Gravel Plains to the coast the Skeleton Coast
  • Either via Walvis Bay to Swakopmund, or (recommended) detour via Ganab to the Welwitschia Plains and Moon Landscape
  • The Namibian coastline is generally known as The Skeleton Coast due to the barren areas, ship wrecks and, in days gone by, whale skeletons left on the beach.

Day 8 - Swakopmund

Today you have a full day in Swakopmund to take advantage of the many activities offered and the variety of amazing sights to see in this coastal town, where the dunes meet the sea.

Full day is set aside for this lovely area where Swakopmund and Walvis Bay offer a wide range of activities such as:

Dolphin Cruise
Sandwich harbour excursion a real Skeleton Coast experience
Dune quad biking and dune boarding
Sea kayaking
Scenic flights
Fun fishing and lots more

Day 9 - Damaraland

  • Head north along the Skeleton Coast, via Henties Bay to visit the Cape Cross seal colony along the way, stop at the Lichen Fields as well as the ship wreck between the colourful small town of Vlotskasbaken and Henties Bay.
  • Backtrack to Henties Bay and head inland through wide open plains to Uis, then north to the Twyfelfontein area
  • Late afternoon (or tomorrow morning) visit to Namibia’s Open Air Museum, the Twyfelfontein Rock Engravings as well as the interesting Organ Pipes rock formations and Burnt Mountai
  • Take a drive (4X4 needed), or arrange with the lodge to go with their vehicle and guide (optional extra) for a drive west to the Huab River to look for the desert adapted elephants as well as other game such as oryx, springbok, ostrich and lots more.

Day 10 and 11 - Etosha National Park

  • After breakfast, enter Etosha at the western Galton Gate, a full morning game drive to Okaukuejo and exit Etosha at the southern gate, Anderson gate
  • Return into Etosha for an afternoon drive or arrange with the lodge for a game drive (optional extra)
  • 2 nights gives a full day for this lovely area and you can do a full day’s drive, or alternate with AM and PM drives into Etosha
  • Waterholes in the area which you should visit would be:
    • Ombika Gemsbok
    • VlakteOlifantsbad
    • Nebrownii
    • Okondeka
    • Okaukuejo waterhole inside the camp a great place to view animals

Day 12 and 13 - Etosha National Park

  • The 12th day is a full day game drive as you drive slowly east through the Etosha Park stopping at numerous waterholes along the way
  • The first stop would be Okaukuejo where you pay your entry fee and I suggest you pop in at the local shop to purchase some drinks and snacks and most importantly, a map of Etosha which will show you all the waterholes along the way
  • Take a slow drive in the morning and ending for lunch at the Halali Resort which is half way between Okaukuejo and the eastern exit gate
  • On the way to Halali, I suggest the following water holes:
    • Nebrownii
    • Gemsbok vlakte
    • Olifantsbad
    • Homob
    • Salvadora Rietfontein

  • The 13th day is set aside for game viewing, either all day or AM and PM ... these are self-drive drives but you can arrange at the lodge to go with their open safari vehicle and guide (extra). Good places to visit in the eastern side:

  • Klein Namutoni

Day 14 - Central Namibia/Africat

  • Head south via Otavi and Otjiwarongo to Okonjima Lodge which is home to the AfriCat Foundation try and arrive here by 14h00 latest in order to enjoy the afternoon tea/coffee and cakes before heading off on your afternoon excursion
  • After dinner, an optional visit to the night hide to view some nocturnal animals

Day 15 - Windhoek

  • Early morning rise for a quick snack before joining the AM activity which will be to visit the AfriCat Foundation or for a drive in the animal enclosure more a game reserve really
  • Back to the lodge for a hearty Namibian breakfast before departure
  • Head back to Windhoek today (about 4 hours) where the vehicle is dropped off and this 15 Day safariends bear in mind that if you are flying out today, the airport is about 1 hour beyond Windhoek, and you need to add 2 hours pre departures so outbound flight must be late afternoon or evening
